Skiptown wasn’t just skipping on this hot Saturday, June 6 for the Mutt Strut—It was strutting. Dogs and pet parents took to the runway in style, though some of the canine contestants seemed more interested in showing off their zoomies than their strut. Thrown by The Center on Colfax in honor of Pride, the event was hosted by drag queen and Pride mainstage host FUPA.
Skiptown isn’t just a normal dog daycare and boarding facility. With a wide, open outdoor park featuring covered picnic tables, pet parents can sit outside enjoying a cold drink from the attached bar while their dogs play. From grooming and vaccines to overnight stays and doggy daycare, Skiptown offers something for every pup. Whether it’s a longer stay or simply a fun day out of the house, dogs of all kinds can find a place here.
Now and then, Skiptown takes a cue from its four-legged guests and shakes things up with fun, active, and exciting events like this year’s Mutt Strut.
Skiptown groomers wore the event’s colors almost as proudly as the dogs. Bright pinks, blues, oranges, and purples covered their hands as they added pet-safe color to tails, legs, and nails. For some pups with the right coat, stencils added an extra touch of personality, including one dog sporting a bright pink “Love” design on its hip.
From big dogs to small, Skiptown groomers took the time to make sure every pup was comfortable throughout the process. The colorful booth felt more like a spa than a grooming station as dogs received their final touches before the competition. Freshly colored tails, painted nails, and Pride-inspired designs helped many contestants arrive runway-ready for their moment in front of the judges.
While some dogs were getting ready for the runway, others stopped by local artist @ezm5.arts for a different kind of keepsake. Throughout the afternoon, pet portraits came to life on paper as guests watched their four-legged companions transformed into colorful works of art. Before and after the show, visitors gathered around the booth to watch the drawings take shape. Even some of the Mutt Strut winners made their way over after the show to commemorate their victory with a one-of-a-kind drawing.
