It’s part reality TV, part, DIY drama, part local competition, and part charitable organization. Colorado Drag Royale is unlike any other show or local competition.
Drag Royale is a drag competition series blending high production value, bold creativity, and unforgettable entertainment into one electrifying showcase. Featuring some of Colorado’s most dynamic drag artists, the series pushes contestants through intense themed challenges, larger-than-life performances, and dramatic eliminations as they battle for the crown. More than just a competition, Drag Royale celebrates queer artistry, community, and the next generation of the queer scene in Colorado, while bringing audiences a theatrical drag experience unlike anything else in the local scene.
Behind the scenes of this localized phenomenon is producer and Denver drag queen Minerva. Along with the production team, Minerva introduces incredible talents to the world, but perhaps more importantly, she cultivates industry professionals. Over the years, the competition has crowned some of Colorado’s biggest drag names in our state, including Season 1 drag king winner The Miscreant, Season 2 drag queen winner Zimmorah Mei, Season 3 drag artist winner Fupa (who is hosting Denver Pride’s Center Stage for 2026), and the reigning Season 4 monarch Jenna Tavia. Each winner represents the diverse artistry and talent that continues to define the Colorado drag scene, proving the Drag Royale’s growing impact on the regional landscape.

Beyond the stage, Drag Royale has become a major force in uplifting and evolving Colorado’s drag culture. The series has created opportunities for emerging entertainers to gain visibility, sharpen their artistry, and connect with wider audiences while encouraging higher levels of creativity, production, and performance throughout the community. By spotting and spotlighting a diverse range of drag styles and identities, Drag Royale has helped push drag into a brand new era, inspiring both performers and audiences while building a stronger sense of community, representation, and artistic ambition across the state.
“The Colorado Drag Royale is a drag competition series blending high production value, bold creativity, and unforgettable entertainment into one electrifying showcase,” says Minerva. “Featuring some of Colorado’s most dynamic drag artist the series pushes contestants through intense themed challenges, larger-than-life performances, and dramatic eliminations as they battle for the crown. More than just a competition, the Drag Royale celebrates queer artistry, community, and the next generation of the queer scene in Colorado, while bringing audiences a theatrical drag experience unlike anything else in the local scene.”

To fully understand the weight of this competition, one only has to look at the testimonies of the monarchs who have taken the crown. For Zimmorah, the Season 2 winner, Drag Royale was a vital turning point for creative validation and survival in a competitive scene.
“Drag Royale changed a lot for me in my career,” Zimmorah shares. “As a Black trans woman who was newer to the Denver scene at the time, it felt like a lot of people didn’t take me seriously as a creative. My steadfast dedication to only performing music by Black people across the diaspora, for some, felt like an inhibitor for me performing in their shows and being taken seriously!
“During my season on the Royale, I put together a package that was undeniably Black and completely unflinching in demand for recognition. Post-winning the Royale, many doors opened for me. I was finally given the chances I worked so incredibly hard for. Winning a title made people take my art seriously and made doors open for me much faster than they would have otherwise.”
That legacy of creative empowerment continued directly into the following year. Fupa, the Season 3 Monarch, echoes the sentiment that the Royale alters the DNA of a performer’s work, setting them up for massive local milestones like handling hosting duties for Denver Pride.

“Winning Season 3 of the Colorado Drag Royale was the start of my professional career as an entertainer and drag maker,” Fupa explains. “The nature of the competition forced me to be more thoughtful about my drag and because of it, my art feels more unique, meaningful than ever before. I’m so proud to represent a competition that gives entertainers an opportunity to try new things, nurture their technical skills and network with other entertainers and producers in Colorado, all while gaining new audiences that their art resonates with. Minerva and the Colorado Drag Royale production team introduce incredible talents to the world, but perhaps more importantly, they cultivate industry professionals, and I’m beyond honored to be part of that legacy.”
The heat is far from over. Season 4 episodes are currently airing on YouTube, giving audiences a front-row seat to the latest batch of intense themed challenges and dramatic matchups. For those looking to experience the magic raw and in person, the momentum is already shifting toward the future: Season 5 will begin a live taping at the iconic Tracks nightclub in August of this year.
