A growing trend among conservative Christian and MAGA-aligned men is prompting the creation of men-only fitness centers designed to shield gymgoers from perceived moral corruption, sexual temptation, and modern secular values. Highlighted by reporting from Baptist News Global and amplified across viral social media discussions, the phenomenon reflects a broader effort within right-wing Christian circles to forge exclusive spaces that combine physical conditioning with traditional religious doctrine.
Among the prominent examples of this emerging movement is Proverbs 27:17 Fitness, a gym and ministry center operating in Oklahoma. The facility’s founder, identified as Jeff, outlined his motivation for establishing a strictly male space on the center’s Instagram page, framing the initiative around marital fidelity and spiritual growth. “One of the most common places affairs and infidelity begin is the gym. I’ve lived that reality,” Jeff writes in a post. He added that God “called me to create a different kind of space … Where men can grow stronger physically and spiritually without the distractions of lust and temptation.”
While some founders present their gyms as personal ministry efforts, others explicitly link their workout spaces to aggressive culture-war politics and anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric. In Colorado, a planned facility named The Remnant Gym is targeting an opening date in the first quarter of 2027. Founder Mitch Parsons articulates a combative cultural vision in a letter posted on the gym’s website, framing Denver as a hostility zone for traditional religious values.
Parsons writes that Christians in Denver “have to fight for our faith and pray for our communities more than most places in the country because we live in a city that is putting litter boxes in high schools, that tried to decriminalize prostitution, that protests for our children to have permission to mutilate their bodies to fit description of an imagined gender, that mourns it can’t kill babies.”
Parsons singled out co-ed workout environments as a primary catalyst for launching his venture, claiming that commercial gyms forced him into a moral dilemma. “I was tired of having nakedness shoved in my face every time I walked into a gym to train,” Parsons explained in his founder’s letter. “I had to choose between honoring the Lord, honoring my wife, and guarding my eyes, or training my body.”
According to its promotional materials, The Remnant Gym plans to feature traditional exercise equipment Alongside social amenities such as a golf simulator, a sauna, and a dedicated “Brotherhood Lounge.” Access to the facility, however, will be contingent on strict ideological alignment. Members will be required to sign a formal contract known as the “Rule of Life,” which mandates agreement with specific doctrines, including “marriage as one man and one woman,” “two genders, given by God at creation,” and an “active fight for the orphan, the widow, and the unborn.”
Cultural commentators and media outlets point out that these men-only fitness ventures align directly with broader white Christian nationalist movements that seek to mobilize conservative men into patriarchal leadership roles. By merging physical training with strict theological contracts, these spaces offer members a retreat from modern secular life while formalizing exclusionary social and political boundaries.
