New Year, Same You, New Challenges

Micah HowellBy Micah HowellJanuary 7, 2025Updated:March 12, 20262 Mins Read

The start of this year comes with challenges and lots of unknowns. As Trump prepares to take office again, the LGBTQ+ community is worried about what the future may look like. No matter how terrifying the next four years will be, we will always be a resource for you, and we will continue to fight for the marginalized.

One of the best ways to take care of yourself these next four years is to practice self-care. Prioritizing self-care is essential for maintaining both your mental and physical health. We’ve compiled a list of trusted partners who are here to help

Project LETS

Project LETS is led by and for folks with lived experience of mental illness, disability, trauma, and neurodivergence. They provide resources lists of alternatives to self harm, crisis plans, and self-care plans.

TrevorSpace

TrevorSpace is an affirming international community and chat space for LGBTQ+ young people ages 13-24. TrevorSpace is an affirming space where you can be you and get advice and support from others in similar situations.

Call BlackLine

Call BlackLine provides a space for peer support, counseling, reporting of mistreatment, and witnessing and affirming the lived experiences for folks who are most impacted by systematic oppression with an LGBTQ+ Black femme lens.

Yarrow Collective

Yarrow Collective is a by/for/with lived experience organization that builds non-carceral, consent-based alternatives to mental health services through peer support, recovery, and harm reduction.

Alana Faith Chen Foundation

The Alana Faith Chen Foundation provides financial support to LGBTQ+ folks who are at risk of suicide so that a person can receive the mental health treatment and therapy they need on their path to healing. AFCF also fights for LGBTQ+ people who have suffered from conversion “therapy,” religious abuse, shame by their church, community, or another institution.

If you’re in need of support this year, I hope this list of resources will help point you in the right direction of finding your queer power and your loving community.

It’s important to know that you are allowed to feel scared, mad, angry and anything in between.
