Queer Comic Margaret Cho Calls JK Rowling ‘a Joke’

Bisexual standup comedian Margaret Cho took to social media to joke about her loathing of disgraced Harry Potter author JK Rowling.

According to The Pink News, Cho took to TikTok to criticize Rowling’s infamously vile attitude towards the trans community, adorned in a t-shirt with trans pride colors. “Shut up JK Rowling, shut up” Cho said, “You’re a joke. That’s why your name is JK, because you are a joke. Your anti-trans rhetoric makes me sick. You are despicable.”

Rowling has identified as an adamant TERF—Trans-exclusionary radical feminist—for several years now. She peddles harmful rhetoric and lies about transgender people (with a heavy focus on trans women), claiming that they are “predators” who threaten supposed “womanhood.”

Cho continued in the TikTok, “I hope that when you face menopause, you have to take a lot of gender-affirming care, as I do. And when you are taking these hormones, they make your pubes grow out so thick and hard it’s like steel wool, and if anyone goes down to eat it, they get a face full of scars,” adding, “I hope they start calling you ‘barbed wire.’”

The video currently has over 163 thousand likes and comments filled with resounding support from the LGBTQ+ community and trans allies.

This comes just after actress Kiera Knightley—known for her roles in Pride and Prejudice, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Love Actually—announced that she wasn’t aware of Rowling’s political views before she joined the cast of the Harry Potter audiobook.

Knightley faced massive backlash and admits, “I was not aware of that, no.” Adding later, “We’ve all got very different opinions. I hope that we can all find respect.” Many took this apology as insincere and brushing off the very real harm that Rowling has perpetuated on the trans community.

Cho is one of many celebrities who have been recently vocal about their Rowling hate, with King Princess sharing a similar sentiment just last month.
