Merriment, illusion, whimsy, and joy: that is what the holidays are made of. Any experience that is opulent, jolly, and gay is what we are craving, and who better to deliver such an event that the team at Cirque Du Soleil?
Cirque Dreams is back in Colorado with another installment of the fantastical and charming adventure, Holidaze, at the bubly™ theater at Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center. The all-ages show invites the audience to enter a world of music, laughter, finesse, and flair from the moment the lights dim until the end of the final ovation.
The touring group that is known for incredible artistry, from the opulent costumes to the skilled circus performers, is turning things up another notch this year. For the first time since establishing the month-long residency of Cirque Dreams Holidaze at Gaylord Rockies in 2019, the stage will be filled not only with acrobats and circus acts, but with professional dancers as well.
One of those dancers, Myke Melendez, shared with OFM that being a part of the entire process, from audition to opening night, has been a dream come true. “This is my first time with Cirque, and I’m honored to be doing anything with them,” says Melendez.
The love for dance and performance shows, as Melendez exudes light and cheer with every motion. As a seasoned professional, he has worked with such notorious brands like Old Navy. Melendez has also performed with American Idol winner Jordan Sparks and has been featured on A&E’s Watching the Detectives. While his notable resume is impressive, he says that it’s being a part of the amazing chemistry within the Holidaze cast that is most exciting.
“It’s tons of fun. I mean, it’s long hours, but we get to what we love. You know what they always say, ‘If you do something you love, it’s not a job.’ And that’s what it is; I’m doing something I love,” explains Melendez.
By adding the twist of Broadway-infused stylings, from professional dancers to vocalists and musicians, the delightful evening is both mesmerizing and imaginative. Like Melendez, performers come from a variety of backgrounds, groups, and trainings, but they hold one thing in common: the desire to make the holidays a little bit brighter with Cirque Dreams. And that they do, indeed.
