Colorado Loses Space Command as Trump Administration Moves Headquarters to Alabama

Justin GoodrumBy Justin GoodrumSeptember 5, 20252 Mins Read

U.S. Space Command headquarters is headed to Alabama. The Trump administration is moving the headquarters from Colorado Springs to Huntsville, Alabama. The Colorado Sun reports that Colorado and Alabama have been battling over the location of the headquarters of the U.S. Space Command for four years, over the boost the headquarters will have on the local economy.

Trump announced the relocation at a press conference on Tuesday, September 2, that he had been envisioning moving Space Command to undo the Biden-Harris Administration’s decision to keep Space Command headquarters in Colorado, where its temporary headquarters was located, overturning Trump’s first-term decision to move it to Alabama, according to CBS News.

During his announcement, President Trump says, “The U.S. Space Command headquarters will move to the beautiful locale of a place called Huntsville, Alabama, forever to be known from this point forward as Rocket City.”

He went on to say that one key factor of the relocation is Colorado’s universal mail-in voting. “The problem with Colorado is that they have a very corrupt voting system,” says Trump. The Colorado Sun reveals that Colorado has used universal mail-in voting since 2014 and that there have not been major issues with the system.

As the Trump administration celebrated Space Command’s new home, Colorado’s entire congressional delegation opposed the move and stated that the move could harm the state and the country at large, via CBS News. The joint delegation vows to fight the move, releasing a joint statement, “We are united in fighting to reverse this decision.” “Bottom line—moving Space Command headquarters weakens our national security at the worst possible time. Moving Space Command sets our space defense apparatus back years, wastes billions of taxpayer dollars, and hands the advantage to the converging threats of China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea.”

Both Governor Polis and Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade express their dissatisfaction with the decision.
