While not many started the night knowing Rachael Jenkins (all pronouns) and her music, the crowd at Globe Hall left with a new favorite indie singer. Jenkins played a selection of her songs both released and unreleased for the audience while they waited for Brooklyn-based band, San Fermin.
Their music, while slower and acoustic, filled the room and captured everyone’s attention. A group at the front was singing along to her song “Allergy Season,” a song about someone taking up far too much space in your mind. Jenkins appeared full of surprise and radiated joy when he realized that people in the crowd knew the lyrics by heart. As a queer artist, his music is chock full of vulnerability, and speaks on personal experiences going through the Mormon church. They introduced “Secrets” by saying “this song is about being gay, leaving the church, and smoking weed.”
The audience was left wanting more and good for them, because more will be on the way as soon as Jenkins mentioned new music will be added to streaming services within the next few months, along with a feature on a track with Scott Lippitt titled “Thin Glass” out on March 29. They are set to have a run of east coast shows in Philly, DC, Brooklyn, and Boston if you want to catch her live yourself!
