Authorities are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that took place near a local Dairy Queen in Grand Junction on June 23, drawing swift reactions and deep mourning from community members and advocacy organizations alike. The local coroner’s office has formally identified the individual killed during the law enforcement encounter as Patti Wilson.
According to initial details released by investigators, police personnel responded to a developing incident at the location. The circumstances of the encounter rapidly escalated, resulting in officers discharging their weapons and fatally striking Wilson. The incident has placed local law enforcement protocols under scrutiny as a parallel investigation into the specific chain of events and the de-escalation tactics used on the scene begins to unfold.

Following the confirmation of Wilson’s death, One Colorado released an official public statement addressing the tragedy:

As the investigation continues, community organizers and residents have echoed the call for transparency regarding the actions taken during the fatal encounter. Local officials and the coroner’s office are expected to release further information as the review of the body-worn camera footage and witness testimonies progresses. OFM stands in solidarity with One Colorado and believe that no matter what, dignity and a fair investigation are the right of all in our community.
