George Washington’s going home.
Original Broadway cast member Christopher Jackson, will return to the Hamilton stage later this year. Hamilton announced the actor’s return in a video post on their Facebook page, Tuesday June 16—also coinciding with the release of the 2020 proshot in physical format—with the description reading, “The moment you’ve been waiting for. Christopher Jackson returns to Hamilton on Broadway from September 8, 2026 – January 3, 2027.” As well as two others reading, “George Washington’s coming home. Christopher Jackson returns to Hamilton on Broadway from September 8, 2026 – January 3, 2027” and “Here comes the general. Christopher Jackson returns to Hamilton on Broadway from September 8, 2026 – January 3, 2027.” It appears that they are just as excited about the actor’s return as much as the rest of us.
Jackson’s return follows Hamilton’s 10-year anniversary celebration on Broadway and the earlier return of fellow original cast member, Tony winner Leslie Odom, Jr., last fall. Which caused ticket prices to skyrocket according to Facebook page, Musicals Daily. With ticket prices averaging between $450 and $1,500 per person, on night’s that Odom Jr. appeared on the stage in comparison to his understudy. Following that Odom Jr. has decided to cross the pond and perform a few limited performances at London’s Victoria Palace Theatre. Could Jackson make a similar move? Only time will tell.
“Returning to Hamilton as George Washington is a deeply meaningful homecoming,” said Jackson in a statement. “This show changed my life, and it remains one of the great honors of my career to be part of telling this story. To step back into this room, with this company and this audience, is something I will never take for granted.”
