Charlie Kirk’s Memorial Crashes Grindr

The gay hook-up app Grindr crashed this past Sunday in Phoenix, due to the huge attendance at Charlie Kirk’s memorial service. BBC cited that tens of thousands of people were in attendance, including major conservative politicians. President Trump was there, even referring to Kirk (a known racist, transphobe, homophobe, need I continue?) as a “martyr.”
According to Queerty, a service called Downdetector—an internet service that offers real-time updates about the status of websites—reported several Grindr outages that same day, but the most extreme being in Phoenix.
This is certainly not the first time that Grindr, the app utilized to help gay men hook-up with each other, has crashed in areas where Republican events are being held. Last year in Milwaukee, there were over 1000 reports of Grindr crashing on the same day, right around where the RNC was held.
There is some reasonable doubt as to the validity of this crash, mainly connected to how ironic and hilarious it is to see so many assumed gay men trying to hook up at Kirk’s memorial. Combined with Grindr claiming that they didn’t report any issues on Sunday—entertaining the idea that these may be false reports from Kirk opposers.
It’s not like there are few of these Kirk-detesters, the man made a career out of advocating for violence against marginalized communities. On several instances, he exclaimed proudly that trans people should be “taken care of,” and referenced the Leviticus passage about stoning gay people.
Downdetector claims that they safeguard from pranks, combined with the other Grindr outages occurring in different states on the same day, it is likely that this is no hoax.
This showcases, once more, the hypocrisy of the Republican party as they fight tooth and nail to infringe upon LGBTQ+ peoples’ rights and support boisterous homophobes like Charlie Kirk and Donald Trump, just to turn around and do the exact homosexual activity that they’re publicly bashing. Just don’t get caught, conservative politicians!
Or do, it makes things more interesting.
