Snoop Dogg is Back to Not Being Homophobic… Again?

London AlexanderBy London AlexanderOctober 27, 20252 Mins Read

Snoop Dogg, the rapper and former gang member who was on trial for first-degree murder in the 90s, is “scared to go to the movies,” not because of gun violence or gang affiliation, but because of queer representation.

In August, the rapper criticized queer representation in the 2022 Disney film Lightyear, which featured a Black lesbian couple and a gay kiss, according to Queerty.

“It fucked me up,” Snoop told the It’s Giving podcast. “I’m like, scared to go to the movies. Y’all throwing me in the middle of shit that I don’t have an answer for … It threw me for a loop. I’m like, ‘What part of the movie was this?’ These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer.”

Snoop’s homophobic rant was triggered by his inability to explain to his grandson how relationships work. “My grandson,” Snoop continues, “in the middle of the movie, is like, ‘Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman!’”

Snoop’s homophobia comes as a surprise. “Queer people remember Snoop as a refreshingly non-homophobic presence in the early oughts,” Queerty says.

Snoop’s feelings toward the LGBTQ+ community has suddenly shifted back to being supportive. The rapper released a new song called “Love is Love” on his kids’ show “Doggyland.” He also partnered with GLAAD and The Voice host Jeremy Beloate, a gay man, to promote tolerance of queer people.

“Snoop, you have music videos with women dancing and kissing other women,” Ts Madison, a trans actress and reality show host, says to TMZ. “So why is displaying lesbian behavior in your music video appropriate, and you are afraid to answer questions from your grandchildren?”

Snoop’s sudden shift back to supporting the LGBTQ+ community feels like a vague PR stunt. “Everybody recognizes the 🌈 spending power when they lose it,” says an X user’s on a post by Ts Madison standing up for the LGBTQ+ community.

The queer community is exhausted by celebrities staying neutral on LGBTQ+ rights while we are constantly under attack. Snoop performed for President Trump at the Inaugural Crypto Ball in January and now supports same-gender love on his kids’ show.  Snoop and other neutral celebrities need to be called out for only supporting the community when it’s financially convenient.
