Meow Wolf Celebrates with a Virtual Pride Week
Meow Wolf, the art collective originally based in New Mexico that specializes in interactive art experiences, has been hosting a virtual Pride Week to celebrate Pride Month through COVID-19. Nearly every day from June 23 through June 30 has a special event planned to show your queer spirit, even when stuck at home until the opening of the Denver location in 2021.
“Since we can’t gather together in person this year, we can all hold hands on the internet instead. That means a week of virtual Pride, babes! We’ve got something sweet nearly every day of the week, so gather your glitter and glowsticks, and let’s get to it,” says Meow Wolf.
On Tuesday, June 23, the events kicked off with a virtual discussion between Liviana Glow and Han Santana-Sayles about the history of Pride and why Black Lives Matter is so important in celebrating Pride each year. Meow Wolf made it clear in its original statement that this year, and every year, that Pride must be intersectional.
“No Pride for some without justice for all,” says Meow Wolf.
On Thursday, June 25, Saints Ball—a drag troupe out of Albuquerque, New Mexico that epitomizes sensuality, art, and eclectic glamour—had a roundtable discussion about its first experiences with drag, being trans, and what it means to be about of the Queer community.
Today, Friday 26, Albuquerque’s premiere alternative drag troupe Saints Ball will be hosting makeup tutorials from drag queen Liviana and the other girls. To view, watch their Youtube channel.
Tomorrow, Saturday, June 27, Nico Salazar of Future Fantasy Delight will be taking over Meow Wolf’s Instagram. Follow their social media for more updates.
Finally, on Monday night, June 29, House of Flora—a Denver/Portland-based kiki house—featuring Tyveze Littlejohn and The Faggéttes, will be putting on a performance that combines works from James Baldwin, soul train, and J-setting. The performance will be at 5 p.m. MST and streamed on Meow Wolf’s Instagram.
