GoFundMe Presents Fundraisers that Support the Transgender Community
As Transgender History Month comes to a close, GoFundMe is promoting various stories of fundraisers that reflect the urgent and varied needs within the transgender community. The Trevor Project’s 2024 U.S. National Survey reported that nearly half of transgender and nonbinary youth seriously considered suicide in the past year, more than half struggle with anxiety and depression, and 45% say they or their families have considered moving due to LGBTQ+-related politics and laws. The online fundraising platform has raised over $6 million in 2025 to support the trans community, including for gender-affirming care, relocation for safety, discharged service members, medical costs, and memorials for those lost to violence. If you would like to support, the following stories have been suggested by GoFundMe.
Stand with Amyri Dior’s Family: Donate Now (Milwaukee, WI) – “On February 21, tragedy struck the city of Milwaukee when 23-year-old transgender woman Amyri Dior was senselessly shot and killed. Amyri’s family and friends describe her as a vibrant and loving soul, whose identity may have tragically played a role in her untimely death. As the community grapples with this loss, loved ones seek justice for Amyri while also raising awareness about the alarming rates of violence faced by transgender individuals.”
Honoring the Life and Legacy of Jazmine Jimenez (Tampa, FL) – “On Friday, August 8 at 12:29 a.m., she went home to Heaven to be with the Lord. I am creating this fundraiser on behalf of my mother Gloria to help cover funeral expenses here in Tampa, Florida, and to fulfill Jazmine’s wish to transfer her body to Puerto Rico, where she wanted to be laid to rest in our hometown of Loíza.”
Help Cayla Heal and Stand Against Hate (Washington D.C.) – “In the early hours of June 29, 2025, Cayla was violently attacked by three strangers while riding her OneWheel scooter near her home in Washington, DC. She was intentionally targeted based solely on her gender identity, verbally assaulted, beaten unconscious, and left for dead.”
Hope for Sage Smith Education Scholarship (Charlottesville, VA) – “On November 20, 2012—Transgender Day of Remembrance—19-year-old Sage Smith vanished from Charlottesville, Virginia. Though officially listed as missing, police have ruled her case a homicide. Sage was a vibrant young woman with dreams of becoming a cosmetologist. She loved to dance, had incredible fashion sense, and brought joy to everyone around her with her infectious spirit.”
Help Mik Get Top Surgery! (Austin, TX) – “I’m Mik, a trans guy in Texas asking for support getting gender-affirming Top Surgery. This procedure will dramatically improve my comfort in my body and my ability to move safely in the world.”
Support Leo’s top surgery recovery 🙂 (Sunnyside, NY) – “I’m Leo; it’s my 40th birthday, and I’m getting top surgery! In lieu of birthday gifts, I’m asking you—friends, family, lovers, colleagues, nemeses—for support with my recovery in October. I’m a freelance writer, a vegan cook, and I teach food studies workshops and host pop-up events.”
Support Athena’s Facial Feminization Surgery (Brooklyn, NY) – “My partner Athena is preparing for Facial Feminization Surgery towards the end of this year, and we need your help to make achieving this massive milestone in her transition possible! Facial Feminization Surgery (FFS) is a collection of a few different gender-affirming procedures that are life changing and often life saving.”
Trans Veteran’s Family Needs Your Support After military Ban (Duluth, MN) – “Our family is facing an unimaginable crisis, one we never thought we’d have to endure after 17 years of honorable military service. My partner, Lindell, is a transgender service member who has dedicated their adult life to this country, sacrificing birthdays, holidays, and milestones to serve our country. But now, because of who they are, our family’s stability is being ripped away.”
Homeless Veteran Urgently Needs Housing and Food (Birmingham, AL) – “Evelynn Beasley is a U.S. Air Force veteran. She once dedicated her life to serving this country as an Aircraft Fuels Systems Specialist, but instead of being honored for her service, Evelynn was discharged simply for being trans. Living in Alabama has become unbearable and unsafe.”
Help a Dedicated Airman Facing Unfair Discharge (Hampton, VA) – “For the last five months, I’ve been dealing with systematic discrimination, staring down the barrel of an end to my career because I’m trans. I transitioned in the military in 2017 under Obama Era guidance and followed all military rules and regulations in doing so. This policy was nearly rescinded during Trump’s first term but was fought in court in a class-action lawsuit that blocked it from going through, but now it’s back.”
Support Luca’s Safe Relocation Journey (North Charleston, SC) – “I am a 25-year-old trans man who was recently a victim of an aggressive hate crime. For my own safety, I am raising money to help me relocate. As things get scarier for trans people and after this traumatizing experience, I am certain that I can no longer live here and feel safe. The goal that I set is only so that I can feel secure in finding housing, covering flights, and figuring everything out.”
Help trans couple relocate to safety (New Orleans, LA) – “Given the increasing legislative and on-the-ground threats against trans people, we have decided that we need to relocate from the deep south to move cross-country. I would be finally able to get a medically needed procedure covered by insurance, and both of us would feel safer knowing that our freedoms would be much less likely to be infringed on.”
Help Trans Couple Leave Ohio & Find Safety and Community (Columbus, OH) – “We are a transgender couple who no longer feel safe living in Ohio, a very red state. We don’t currently have much of a community where we live despite being here for years and being in a city. We’ve been harassed here; the laws are going against all of our rights; we don’t currently have health insurance, and the cost of healthcare in Ohio and our hormones seems to keep going up.”
