For Women Scotland Fights Government Over Gendered Spaces

Transphobic group For Women is hellbent on quashing the rights of trans women

For Women is the notorious TERF organization behind the April 2025 U.K. Supreme Court ruling stating that the legal definition of “woman” does not include transgender women. Now, their sights are set on current Scottish policies that still protect trans students and trans people in custody.

These policies state that trans students are not required to use bathrooms that reflect their biological sex, as it may make them uncomfortable to do so. As for trans women in custody, they are currently permitted to be placed in a women’s jail as long as there is no reason to suspect that they pose a threat to their fellow inmates.

For Women Scotland claims that these policies are “in clear breach of the law,” referring to the April 2025 ruling.

A spokesperson for For Women Scotland says that the action being taken is “not a petition for a judicial review but an ordinary action for quashing of policies that are inconsistent with the U.K. Supreme Court judgement.”

They implied that For Women has “little choice but to initiate further legal action” due to the government’s unresponsiveness to the matter, stating that the ministers have 21 days from August 16, the date their legal action was taken at the Court of Session, to respond.

“If the policies have not been withdrawn by then, we will lodge the summons for calling, and the government will have to defend its policies in court. We are asking the court to issue a declarator that the school guidance and the prison guidance are unlawful and that they be reduced in whole. We are also asking that both policies are suspended in the meantime,” they state.

It has yet to be seen how the Scottish government will respond to the TERF group’s legal action, which reflects their odd obsession with strangers’ genitals (including those of minors).

Transphobia in the U.K. has some experts describing it as a public health crisis, especially after the Supreme Court’s ruling.
