Winter Is Coming to Denver’s Paramount Theatre

Winter Starts Now

Warren Miller Entertainment, a pioneer in action sports cinematography since 1949, is excited to bring audiences its 72nd feature film, Winter Starts Now.

Showings will play at Denver’s Paramount Theatre November 18-20.

Chasing the snowy season from coast to coast, Winter Starts Now takes viewers on a journey to the highest peak in America, to the best-groomed trails at beloved resorts, and to the mom-and-pop’s that have stood their ground throughout the ever-changing ski world. The film is an homage to every skier who lives for the thrill and finds solace on the chairlift.

“If we learned anything from last year’s most unusual winter, it’s that skiing and snowboarding and life in the mountains provide a release and a reprieve and a reminder of what matters most,” says Vice President of Content for Warren Miller Entertainment, Micah Abrams. “Every year, we celebrate that moment when you can see your breath and realize that you’re only a few weeks away from your first run of the year. We are pleased to announce Winter Starts Now, and we look forward to celebrating with you.”

Following the adventures of big mountain skiers Marcus Caston and Connery Lundin, Winter Starts Now features several athletes including rising star Madison Rose, Paralympic snowboarder Noah Elliott, speed riding legend JT Holmes, and old friends like Amie Engerbretson and Jim Ryan.

Ryan, who has wanted to pursue professional skiing since he was a toddler, has been in previous Warren Miller films Face of Winter, Timeless, and Future Retro.

“The storytelling this year is excellent,” he told OFM. “We have a bunch of very inspiring people, and I always enjoy the company the most on these film trips. Making a segment is such a team effort, so you need to work closely with the crew that gets assembled. I always come out of every trip reveling in the new friendships I’ve made.”

Winter Starts Now is also being hailed by critics for showcasing and celebrating diversity in winter sports.

“Telling a wider range of stories, you are going to get new and inspiring story lines,” Ryan says. “And vice versa. Diversity is captivating because it brings a new perspective to a familiar backdrop.”

Along with Rose and Elliott, he will appear at the Denver showings. Currently, Ryan is working on a new series called Rogue Intentions that will, hopefully, launch soon.

“It’s all about skiing in unlikely places, doing it with style and humor,” he explains. “Madison Rose, my primary Winter Starts Now film partner, is working on it with me. I would love to see it get legs.”
