Wild fashion: Corky Blankenship’s famous Pride pool party proves guys get wet too

If you haven’t heard of Corky Blankenship’s Pride pool party, then you’re missing out. This year – the fourth annual poolside bash – took place on June 15 with nearly 900 people in attendance. In addition to all of the hotties playing in the water, the party also included four DJs, a “Play Pen” area where the party spilled out onto the driveway and the street, and benefited eight nonprofit organizations that work for the LGBT community.

The pool-party diva himself gave Out Front us the scoop on who stood out this year, with tips on how to throw your own successful festive charity benefit.

Top 5 eye-catching trends:

Bright Colors: This year’s pool party looked like a Bollywood movie. Guests sported swimwear in blue, yellow, red and green – the brighter the hue, the better.

Body Paint: In an effort to be even more colorful, many guests also wore body paint in a rainbow of bright colors.

Fake ’n Bake: Speaking of body paint, a few of the partygoers were strangely less tan after a dip in the pool. That was just fine, Corky said – they’d started out about four shades too dark anyway.

Square-Cut Trunks: As always, the square-cut boy shorts were the style du jour, with aussiBum being the brand of choice.

Show Offs: Guys of all shapes and sizes weren’t afraid to strap on a tight banana-hammock.

Top 5 crazy sights:

These Heels Were Made for Walkin’: Silas, (a bartender?) from X Bar Denver, strutted his stuff poolside in bright pink heels and an Afro. You couldn’t miss him.

One-Pieces: Koko Brentano (queen of the T-girls) rocked a sexy one-piece, and she knew how to work it.

Bobbing for Apple iPhones: Cell phones were the go-to accessories this year, with about six phones getting fried when partygoers were pushed in the pool.

Banding Together: Corky’s pool party wristbands actually became a hot fashion accessory throughout Pride weekend.

taste the rainbow: Multiple groups of people showed up with each person as a different color of the rainbow.

5 tips to throwing a Corky-style party:

Start Planning Early: Don’t wait until the last minute unless you’re ok with delays and disappointment.

Hire a Caterer: If possible, have the food catered in so you don’t have to be involved with the details of feeding your guests. Also be sure to get RSVPs so you can give an accurate count to the caterer.

Build a Team: Encourage your friends to help you plan the party, and ask them to help set up and take down before and after the festivities.

Help a Cause: If you’re donating to charities, research those that will match your donations.

Keep it Clean: Skip the shenanigans in the pool for a while prior to your guests’ arrival, so the water stays crystal clear. Also be sure the pool is properly treated with chemicals.
