Daniel, 20, was raised by a very conservative and religious family, and recently came out of the closet. The announcement was not greeted well: Daniel was beaten, cursed, and kicked out of the house.

Daniel, brave enough to state “Science trumps the word of God” was quickly rebuffed, and the argument escalated into violence until (presumably his father) stepped in and ended the fighting, but stated “you are a disgrace” to his son.

This is just a harrowing example of the anti-LGBT attitudes still prevalent in society, and alludes to any number of LGBT homeless stories. Daniel received $90,000 through a GoFundMe campaign, and has started directing those wishing to donate to give to Atlanta’s Lost-n-Found, a nonprofit homeless shelter for LGBT youth.
