Our favorite press release of the day comes from Urban Peak and it goes like this:
From 12am through 11:59pm on Tuesday, Dec. 9th, Urban Peak is hosting a 24-hour walk to raise awareness for the issue of youth homelessness. The walk will take place on the block that houses Saint John’s Cathedral in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Denver. Staff, donors, supporters, volunteers, and members of the community will walk throughout the 24-hour period in support of Urban Peak and the youth they serve.
On average, the youth experiencing homelessness who receive services from Urban Peak walk 15 miles a day. They walk to keep warm, stay safe, find their next meal, go to work, and get to the locations of different service providers throughout the city.
“We want to create an event that puts the spotlight on one of the realities of being young and homeless,” said Dan Hanley, Urban Peak’s Director of Development & Public Affairs who will attempt to walk for the entire 24-hour period. “We think that doing this walk on Colorado Gives Day is an excellent opportunity to get our message out and connect with people who may not know about us or about the brutal reality of youth experiencing homelessness.”
In addition to walking the block, several events are planned throughout the 24-hour period, including times to drop off donated goods.
Urban Peak is inviting supporters, both new and old, to come to Saint John’s Cathedral and walk the block around the cathedral, located at Washington and 14th Streets, in support of youth experiencing the brutal reality of homelessness.
