VASSY to Headline at Triangle During Pride Weekend

Vassy

Thanks to her unique sound and anthemic lyrics, VASSY has become one of the most sought-after vocalists around the world in dance music.

The Australian multi-platinum award-winning artist knows how to individualize herself with effortless dexterity as a singer, songwriter, and producer, and her music speaks for itself. Her discography includes several, Global Chart-topping songs which have earned her multiple number-one hits in over 30 countries, and she recently joined the two billion stream milestone with her hit song “Bad,” a collaboration project between her, Dutch EDM duo Showtek, and David Guetta.

Ranging in style from dance to soul and jazz, VASSY has positioned herself as a prominent and authentic star.

On Sunday, June 26, VASSY will be headlining at Triangle Bar’s Pride in Paradise block party in celebration of Pride weekend, and OFM caught up with the powerhouse before her upcoming appearance.

We cannot wait to see you at Triangle on June 26! What do you have in store for audiences?

I’m excited to be performing back in Denver at Triangle! The crowd is so much fun, and the energy I get from them is next level. I’m going to give them a collection of all my big hits, and it’s definitely going to get them on the dance floor moving.

What can one always expect from a VASSY performance?

Vassy

It depends on the setting, but for this particular show, it’s definitely dance anthems back-to-back. Anything to get you up and moving, and there will also be a stimulating visual experience on LED screens.

Looking at your online schedule, you have a couple other Pride events you will be appearing at. What makes the LGBTQ community so special to you, and what do you enjoy the most about performing at Pride?

Performing at Pride is one of my most favorite things to do, and I look forward to it every year. I’ve been performing at Pride festivals for many years. I get so excited because first of all, the crowd is always in the best of mood. They give you so much love. It’s also sentimental to me because it’s not just a performance; it’s something special. It’s a gathering to represent everyone coming together to celebrate freedom and the right to be who they want to be and love who they want to love.

I think the energy from the crowd is bigger than the music. It’s about celebrating life. I cherish my performances at Pride festivals so much, and I’m honored to always be invited back to perform for the community. It’s a privilege, and it means so much to me that the community wants me there on such a monumental day. It makes me proud to see us all come together. All the different colors, sizes, sexes, and so on. There’s nothing like a good Pride festival!

Personally, what does Pride mean to you?

It means being proud of who you are and being authentically yourself. Never be ashamed of who you are, who you want to be, who you want to live, or how you look—no judgements, no stereotypes. Be free to be you.

Do you remember the first Pride event you ever attended? If so, what did you take away from that experience?

Vassy

Yes, I think my very first Pride festival was back in Sydney years ago, and it was amazing. The freedom and the euphoric energy from the crowd was invigorating. At that moment, I knew Pride festivals were going to play a big part in my life.

What has been one of your most memorable Pride gigs?

That is a tough one because I’ve done so many over the years. I think Capitol Hill Pride was a very special one because we are so close to the White House, and that’s where all decisions are made that affect the American people. But I’ve performed so many, and I’ve had so much fun at them all. From Las Vegas to Santa Barbara, to Chicago to Denver, it’s a different city and place every year.

Is there a message you would like to say to your LGBTQ fans?

Yes. I want to tell them to be proud of who they are and to continue being authentically themselves. I never want them to be ashamed of what they stand for, and they should always believe in themselves. Rejection will come, but that’s life and they are simply re-directions. I want them to know that I will always have love for them, and they have become a part of my family.  Thank you for creating memories with me over the years.

I would also like to say congratulations on your recent wedding! How has married life been going, and would you like to tell us about the lucky guy?

Thank you so much! That is very kind, and it’s going well. I got lucky after years of chasing my career and doing what I do. I never thought I would find the right guy until I met my guy four years ago, and we fell in love. He is truly my soulmate. I’m so blessed to have such a good man in my life. We got married in Australia, and he is such a wonderful, caring partner who supports me and accepts me for who I am. He embraces all of me. Don’t ever give up on love!

Vassy

How did you two meet?

We met at a film Festival in Los Angeles. I was walking the red carpet and he saw me, and we just started talking. I always tell my friends, “Don’t give up on hope because there’s someone out there for everyone. You just have to believe in it.”

What’s next for your music? Are you currently working on any new projects?

Yes! I’m working on a new single right now, which should be scheduled for the summer. I’m excited about it and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it. I’m always trying to work on new songs for my fans, songs that I’m also excited about. I also try to stay authentic because there’s always a lot of pressure to put stuff out, but I don’t want to just release a whole bunch of things. I want to be selective and nurture each track.

What can you tell us about your Unplugged set, which you will tour next year?

It’s an acoustic series of all my dance hits, and that’s my favorite way to perform. It’s very intimate. Typically, with a guitarist and a violin player, it’s a very emotive concert. The fans have really enjoyed it, and I was surprised because I’m used to performing in big dance settings. I didn’t think they would appreciate it, but everyone recognized the songs, and everyone was moved by the performance. That led me to put this Unplugged series together for 2023.

What do you always hope audiences take away from your music?

Vassy

I just want them to feel inspired and feel good about themselves. I want my music to empower them. If it helps them get through a moment or chapter in their life, then my job is done. I feel complete. The struggles of being in this tough business is worth it if my music can simply change someone’s life.

Before we wrap up, are there any other upcoming projects or anything else you’d like to mention or plug?

Yes, I would love to plug my new merchandise line. It’s my new VASSY t-shirt line, and I’m so excited about it, so I would love for everyone to check it out and support it, if you can. Also, if you’re into the whole NFT space, I’ve launched a very exclusive VASSY dance collective series, which is a digital collection of memorabilia and exclusive music not available online.
