Trump Seeks Policy to Make “Only Two Genders”
At this year’s AmericaFest in Phoenix, Arizona, Trump made the announcement that “it will be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female.”
AmericaFest is held by Turning Point USA, an organization for students in right wing activism. In his speech chock full of anti-trans rhetoric and fear mongering, he states that in his impending term, his presidency would “end the transgender lunacy.” He plans to enact several policies to do this, his rant starting with taking transgender athletes out of sports. Always, it always starts with transgender women being villainized.
He also aims to make a policy that makes “male” and “female” the only two genders, and based on that which is assigned at birth. This would legally erase trans identities at the federal level, taking away autonomy for a lot of people. He also plans to make good on his promise to federally ban gender-affirming care for minors, and plans to “get transgender out of the military and out of our elementary schools and middle schools and high schools.”
He plans to sign an executive order that would remove about 15,000 active military personnel because they are trans. The order would make them “unfit to serve” and would cause them to be medically discharged from service, according to The Times, a London-based outlet. This would mirror his anti-trans military policies during his first term.
As for “getting the transgender out of schools,” as Trump has consistently warned, he has made no official plans. Likely, it will have to do with the “Don’t Say Gay” policies he lauded in 2024, which limit LGBTQ+ discussion in schools, tying in with his efforts to implement the idea that there are “only two genders” starting at the elementary school level.
