Trump says, if elected, he will be a champion for gay rights

Wait … what?

For the last year, Trump has been pretty confusing when it comes to his policies and personal opinions concerning us queers. In June, when the Supreme Court passed marriage equality, Trump wasted no time in declaring that, if elected, he would “strongly consider” appointing judges who would overturn the ruling. He said that to Fox News.

But, a few short months later he expressed support for barring companies from firing employees on the basis of sexual orientation to NBC News. “I don’t think it should be a reason” employers can use to terminate workers, he told NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Now, not even a week after his loss in Iowa, Trump seems to be rallying for votes anyway he can. Speaking with a local television station just days before the New Hampshire primary, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump discussed his views on how gay rights would fit into a Trump presidency.

New England Cable News reporter Sue O’Connell, who identified herself as a lesbian, interviewed Trump on the subject.

“We’ve had some great progress for the gay and lesbian community, through politics, through all sorts of judicial actions and elected actions over the past 20 years,” O’Connell said. “When President Trump is in office, can we look for more forward motion on equality for gays and lesbians?”

His response, was shocking.

“Well, you can and look – again, we’re going to bring people together. That’s your thing, and other people have their thing. We have to bring all people together. And if we don’t, we’re not gonna have a country anymore. It’s gonna be a total mess.”

“It’s a mess right now. It’s going to be worse. So you know this this is a very important choice. This presidential year is a very important — maybe the most important we’ve had in many, many decades, and I’m gonna bring people together.”

How about it gays? Do you feel that we made a new ally, or do you think he is just rallying votes in New Hampshire, where 67 percent of people say they support same-sex marriage?

Also makes you wonder how he feels about those Mexican, Muslim or disabled gays …
