Trans Icon Peppermint Releases 90s-Inspired Summer Bop

Start your engines; roll down your windows, and get ready to pump up the volume! RuPaul’s Drag Race star and trans icon Peppermint has released the mother of all 90s, summer cruise songs.

Peppermint’s brand new single, “Here For It,” premiered June 27 on Black Queer Town Hall. Complete with punchy, neon graphics and a high powered, Beyoncé-style hair fan, the music video gives you allll the nostalgia AND all the foot-tapping, head-bopping realness. Flanked by two incredibly talented back-up dancers (eye candy alert), Peppermint looks gorgeous while feeling her retro fantasy.

The trailblazing actress, singer, reality star, and activist released the first installment of her musical trilogy last year: A Girl Like Me: Letters To My Lovers. The three part music masterpiece will be Peppermint’s “personal diary set to music, with Volume 1 tackling the subjects of flirtation, lust and love.” “Here For It” is the first drop of her second installment, due to come out later this year.

Her talents extend far beyond the musical sphere, however. Peppermint’s new reality show, Call Me Mother, is coming this fall to OUTtv, the world’s first LGBTQ network. She will star alongside the U.K.’s Crystal and Canada’s Barbada as house mothers to blossoming, new drag talents, who will compete over the course of eight weeks for a $50,000 prize package and the title of “First Child Of Drag.”

Peppermint rose to fame during her time on RuPaul’s Drag Race Season Nine, making history as the first openly trans woman competing on the show. She did fantastically on her season, finishing as the runner up to Sasha Velour. Since her time on the show, she’s gone on to be a vocal advocate for trans rights and is an essential figure in the Black queer community.
