Brianna Wu, a trans activist and commentator publicly apologized to her “trans sisters” for siding with anti-trans conservatives. A couple hours later, she called a trans woman “male-brained,” according to Them.

Wu is currently the sixth most-blocked person on Bluesky, following JD Vance, the White House, and Homeland Security. She expresses on social media regret for advocating against gender-affirming medical care and trans legal rights.

“I genuinely thought that as a trans woman, if (I) ceded some points with the gender-critical crowd, we could have a healthier conversation and arrive at better public policy,” Wu writes. “The problem is, they are getting crazier and more extreme …They are incapable of looking for a middle ground on bathrooms. They want maximalist policies on everything …Many of our most extreme ideas are bad. But theirs are worse. So if I have to pick, I choose us.”

In a follow-up post, Wu says she considers her “business settled with all trans sisters,” then asked others to “reset things, unblock me, and move forward.”

Hundreds of replies flooded the platform. “She called me a sociopath and said the state should take my kids away when I publicly talked about her very obvious constant grifts,” writes Katelyn Burns, an independent trans journalist. “Go fuck yourself,” she adds.

Wu ran as a Democrat in an unsuccessful congressional bid in 2018 after gaining fame “as a target of the GamerGate harassment campaign in the mid-2010s,” according to Them. After announcing her candidacy, Wu wrote, “The Moon is probably the most tactically valuable military ground for earth. Rocks dropped from there have power of 100s of nuclear bombs.”

Wu has since leaned further into right-wing talking points, blaming trans activists for the “terrifying backslide in trans rights across the board.” In 2024, she further claimed, “Redefining trans from a non-partisan healthcare and civil rights issue to a fringe leftist issue synonymous with socialism and anti-Americanism has been disastrous.”

Despite Wu’s apology, her actions have not changed. Wu referred to comments on her apology as “the kind of toxic, extremist behavior that made we want to look for a new direction in the first place.” She also referred to “MAGA, TERFs, and Free Palestine” as extremist movements.
