Tom Felton speaks on J.K. Rowling And Her Involvment In The Harry Potter Movies

Recently in an interview regarding his new book Beyond The Wand with The Independent, Tom Felton, known for playing Draco Malfoy, stated that J.K. Rowling did not have very much to do with the films in between talks about his dog and how his life changed due to him being a part of the Harry Potter franchise.

J.K. Rowling has revealed herself to be a massive bigot and transphobe in recent years, going so far as to spout her horrible beliefs on Twitter and writing a disgusting response to the backlash she received that attempted to prey upon the reader’s pity.  This came as a shock to many fans of the Harry Potter series, as a large amount of them were queer, trans, or allies. When asked on Twitter how she sleeps at night knowing that she has alienated a large group of her fans, she said, “I read my most recent royalty cheques and find the pain goes away pretty quickly.”

Most of the cast of the Harry Potter movies have publicly denounced J.K. Rowling’s beliefs and actions, stating that she is wrong, and their beliefs differ. Tom Felton, however, seems lukewarm in comparison. When given the chance to do the same, he said, ” I mean, the obvious things to say are that I’m pro-choice, pro-discussion, pro-human rights across the board, and pro-love. And anything that is not those things, I don’t really have much time for. It is also a reminder that as much as Jo is the founder of (these) stories, she wasn’t part of the filmmaking process as much as some people might think. I think I only recall seeing her once or twice on set.” He later adds, “Honestly, with my friends, we all have differing opinions on various matters, and we celebrate our own choices. We certainly don’t take any pleasure in putting crosshairs on people that may have said things that we disagree with.”
