To Write Love on Her Arms Kicks Off Prevention Day Campaign

To Write Love On Her Arms

The mental health nonprofit To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA) announced its 10th annual campaign in honor of World Suicide Prevention Day, September 10, and National Suicide Prevention Week, September 5-11. The 2021 campaign revolves around the statement “Another Day With You.”

The nonprofit is dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide, existing to encourage, inform, inspire, and directly invest into treatment and recovery. The nonprofit has donated more than $2.5 million directly into treatment and recovery, answered more than 210,000 emails from more than 100 countries, and traveled all around to world to meet people in person at nearly 3,000 events.

According to a blog post from the nonprofit, “This community, this movement knows what it’s like to face and endure moments that feel insurmountable. Those moments when you’re nearly certain you can’t or won’t survive. But we know, and you know, through lived experience, that they are survivable. They are far from insignificant; they are far from easy—but they remain opportunities to witness healing and change. They result in another day. And to us, another day with you means the chance for feelings to shift, joy to be reintroduced, and hope to grow.”

Co-Executive Director Lindsay Kolsch adds that it is hard to prevent something like suicide when we are uncomfortable talking about it. She says that stigma is the reason these conversations are uncomfortable.

“This campaign is about making it possible for moments of authentic connection and conversation that just might help someone stay to happen,” Kolsch says. “Whether that’s in the classroom, at the dinner table, or online. We want those struggling to feel seen and for everyone to know they can be a part of the solution.”

For those interesting in participating, the nonprofit has a World Suicide Prevention Day pack available, and folks can also join the conversation online using #AnotherDayWithYou, #WSPD21, tagging @TWLOHA, and donating to the campaign. TWLOHA says they will directly invest every donation from the campaign toward sponsoring 3,500 counseling sessions and supporting 45,000 searches for free or affordable mental healthcare with their FIND HELP tool.
