Moving during the holidays can be a challenge, and most of us avoid moving during these times because of everything that goes with it; however, if you’re planning on moving during the holiday season, here are a few tips to help you move through the process of being away from familiar surroundings and being far from the ones you love.
Reach out and make sure you stay connected to those you know and care for by calling or e-mailing them. It’s OK to let your family and friends know you need their friendship at this time. When I moved to Denver it was during the holidays, and my dad helped me pack, drive and unpack into my new space. My dad stayed for several days afterwards to make sure my move went smoothly. Don’t forget your support system.
Play music in your home and car that truly makes you happy. Music is a powerful force, and it can transport you to familiar and comfortable places.
Be extra sentimental during this particular holiday season. Pictures and sentimental items, such as holiday tree ornaments, can take you to a place that feels warm and familiar. Be sure to start a new tradition this year!
Check out the sites and become familiar with your new living area. The local Chamber of Commerce or online newspaper can give you ideas of what your new community offers during the holidays. Embrace a few of the events your new community offers and enjoy the new adventure you’re embarking on!
