The White House Accidentally Comes Out as Bisexual
On July 23, the White House changed the outside lights to red, white, and blue in support of America in the summer Olympics. The White House has changed its lights on several different occasions to honor many different events and historic moments. However, this recent gesture soon took Twitter by storm, as users began speculating that this was the White House’s coming-out post.
First Lady Dr. Jill Biden posted the picture on Twitter with the caption, “Meanwhile, back in DC! #TeamUSA.” Soon after the post was made, Twitter users began to make jokes and speculations about the building’s sexuality.
Although the lights were red, white, and blue and represented the United States’ involvement in the Tokyo Olympics, the red appeared to be pink in some spots, and the red and blue lights combined to create purple. As Twitter user Kristofer Thomas put it, “God I love how they just accidentally broadcast the bisexual flag.”
Whether it be a coincidence or not, the use of bisexual lighting in our nation’s capital is giving some Americans hope of a more accepting society, and a step away from the Trump administration. Last month, President Joe Biden said that Pride is back at the White House. Some Twitter users are speculating that this is an example of that.
Others believe that this is the doing of Dr. Biden, who some users are calling a “bicon.” And naturally, other users began making “Bi-den” jokes. And some Twitter users even went on to speculate that this was the building itself coming out as bisexual.
Regardless of the actual meaning and intention of this gesture, many Twitter users within the LGBTQ community were excited to see the post, and felt that it honored queer athletes competing in the Olympics, as well as the queer and bi community as a whole.
