The RMAA Announces 2023-2024 Chorus Schedule

Denver Chorus

The Rocky Mountain Arts Association, the managing organization for the Denver Women’s Chorus and Denver Gay Men’s Chorus, has announced the concert schedule for 2023-24 season. It will feature the upcoming shows titled We Are, Winter Soulstice, Her Story, Our Future, Neon Lights, Storytellers, and Shout. Click here to view the dates and times for these performances. I promise you won’t want to miss them!

The Denver Women’s Chorus is celebrating its 40th anniversary thanks to “a group of brave lesbian singers who risked their livelihoods in 1984 to form a chorus that became both a safe place for its members and an outlet for musical expression.” The DWC is a chorus consisting of 130 voices that pride themselves on nonbinary and trans inclusiveness. Many of the singers in the chorus are members of the LGBTQ community and the remaining are dedicated queer allies.

We Are – A Celebration of Self Acceptance takes the place of the Denver Women’s Chorus November concert series as it embraces “diversity, equity, and intersectional feminism while also promoting social change through music.” Taking place on  November 3-4, 2023 in Denver and Boulder, the show is in honor of the women who fought to create this chorus and safe place for women. It was created in collaboration with singer, songwriter, and educator Melanie DeMore, and will feature songs from Whitney Houston and India Arie.

Johnny Nichols Jr. is the new artistic director for the Denver Gay Men’s Chorus and is the first BIPOC leader the organization has ever had. Along with being the first new Artistic Director in 10 years, he has served as Artistic Director for Ipswich River Community Chorus in North Reading, MA, and as an Assistant Conductor and Director of Education and Outreach for the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus.

Nichols Jr. will make his debut as Artistic Director at the Denver Gay Men’s Chorus holiday concert titled Winter Soulstice. The show will “celebrate the holiday season with music that honors the earth, celebrates diversity, and dances to the festive rhythm of soul music.” The Denver Gay Men’s Chorus was founded in 1982 and has held over 300 concerts throughout the past 42 years. They consist of 140 members and are known as “one of the premier gay performing arts organizations in the Rocky Mountain Region.”

Michael Sattler, Executive Director of Rocky Mountain Arts Association states, “Every year is a new chapter for us, but this year, it’s actually the start of a new era; we toast DWC’s historic four decades, reflect on its historic accomplishments, and are energized about its future. Combining DWC’s milestone with DGMC’s first new artistic director in over a decade, we can confidently say a new era has begun for both choruses!”
