The hunky Colton Ford heats up the stage at the Pride Pornstar Party
Colton Ford has been musical for as long as he can remember. After a short career in the porn industry, he went full force into his music. His new album, ‘The Way I Am’ is set for release in July. Ford will be turning up the heat at the Bar Standard for DJ Tatiana’s Pornstar Party June 15. He talked with OFC about his new album and his racy career as a porn star.
How does it feel to be the main entertainer for DJ Tatiana’s famous Pornstar Party?
It’s great. You know, this is what I do, so I enjoy gigging and getting out, interacting with people and making a connection. That’s what this thing is all about so it’s a lot of fun and it’s a good thing. My partner and I will be, I believe, kind of co-hosting it. I think I’m going to be performing my single.
Tell me about the single.
Yeah, it’s a single that I currently have out right now. We just released the main mix but the whole remix package, and we’re shooting a video to this track, is dropping next month and the song is called “Let Me Live Again.”
What are you looking forward to about being in Denver?
It’s another opportunity to connect with people. And obviously it’s been a long time since I’ve been to Denver, so I haven’t been out to Colorado for years and years, and I’ve never been to Denver Pride, so I’m just looking forward to experiencing what it’s all about out there.
How did you find yourself in the porn industry?
I was 39 years old, and I was dating a big porn star at the time, Blake Harper, who was actually my partner for five years but that was at the beginning when we started dating. I had fantasized about the experience but never really acted on it because I was a recording artist. At 39, I felt a little dead in the water, ‘cause back then, especially, when the label system was in full effect, I wasn’t label material anymore because I wasn’t 21. So I decided to give myself the opportunity to have that experience … And I didn’t know what would come of it but certainly it’s a curiosity and I absolutely used it to draw attention to what it is that I do with regards to music and performing.
What would you say to anyone considering a career in porn?
I always tell people to think about it and really consider all of the things that come with it. You know, I did it for 10 months and that was back in 2001 to 2002, and we’re still talking about it, so it’s not something that ever leaves you. And certainly it doesn’t have the stigma it did, but there’s still misperceptions and prejudices and all that kind of good stuff. And then I encourage the younger set of many people that are in their 20s to really just wait until they get to know themselves better.
What would you say to anyone striving for a music career?
I really think they need to follow their hearts and do it for the right reasons. So you really should have a strong passion and commitment to your craft to get into it. It’s not an easy career at all, so I think you really have to think about why you’re doing it and be honest with yourself, in terms of your abilities. ]
