The divine feminine

I already know that this piece will have political overtones and might give rise to political conversation. Politics, though, is not the point. I sense a greater metaphysical truth at work here and I find it extraordinary.

I mentioned to my beloved, Lisa, a few weeks ago, that as we watch this political season unfold it just feels like there are “greater forces” at work. Then the other day I got an intuitive hit on what those forces might be. I get the feeling that the Universe is conspiring with us – Isn’t it always? – to facilitate a shift in some very powerful energy.

There have been ample musings about the significance and impact of 2012. One of the most fascinating to me is the idea that there is a re-emergence of feminine energy on the planet. It is as if our paternalistic societies are being balanced out by a more loving, compassionate and nurturing maternal energy; perhaps instinctively for existential reasons – without that balance we might appear to be in self-destruct mode.

As I observe the politics of our presidential “discourse” (always seems more like two kids calling each other names on the playground, than actual discourse) I sense an ever more obvious movement away from that which seems to be reinforcing the old paternalistic world view. One side of the debate has decidedly more controlling thoughts regarding women, while the other seems to embrace the equality, and indeed, balance of the feminine with the masculine. Lisa and I were watching a show talking about poll numbers and I was very moved by the shift to big leading margins by the side apparently favoring the feminine. Most striking of all was that the shift was almost entirely driven by women. Now that’s not only a voice being found and raised, it is clearly a move to balance.

Politicize this however you will, but I would invite us all to take a long hard look at the dynamics here. One side of the debate is obviously moving forward into balance, while the other is regressing into intolerance and control. I don’t know about you, but I clearly see the hand of the Universe, with thumb on the scale, tilting that scale in the direction of our highest good, which will always be balance. And my invitation is to embrace that balance; to look to that more compassionate, loving and nurturing side that is a part of each and every one of us. How might we demonstrate that in our daily lives? How might we support one another and collaborate with the Universe for a more balanced planet?

The questions are not meant rhetorically and they are as universal as they are personal. What is my role? I am here to participate in this shift to balance, not observe its unfolding. That participation must start in my own heart and it must start with each and every relationship and encounter that are part of the experience of my life. In the final analysis the message and our role is to love one another. It will never need to be any more complicated than that.
