The Addams Family continues in Boulder until the end of the week
After a very successful run at Boulder’s BDT Stage (Boulder Dinner Theatre), the new musical comedy The Addams Family is closing this weekend.
The final performance is on Saturday February 27 and if you saw the touring production in Denver back in 2012 you might have passed on seeing this one for a multitude of valid reasons. However, I’m convinced now more than ever that this show is meant for intimate local and regional theaters. It’s the kind of show that really requires fun local and well-known talent to play the bizarre, ghoulish and anything-but-normal American family. The kind of familiarity that by default embodies a combined lighthearted level of trust and forgiveness, required to get away with the quirky, low-brow humor of the show.
Quick side note: There are certainly many standout performances and the show really is quite humorous, however Pugsley Addams, portrayed alternatively by Ethan Leland and Owen Leidich, has a torture scene that was so ‘painfully’ funny, it brought me to tears!
Bottom line, who doesn’t love a show that has a ‘two-snap’ opening number? You know the song, Buh-Da-Da-Dum (Snap Snap)!
BDT Stage is one of the few remaining and highly acclaimed dinner theaters in Colorado. From their well-rounded, palate-pleasing menu and full bar to their very talented yet peculiarly hidden live band somewhere behind the wall, the BDT Stage continues to consistently deliver exceptional entertainment year after year and at a great value.
If you can catch the show before it closes, it’s well worth it. Otherwise, next up at BDT Stage is the five Tony Award-winning, Peter and the Starcatcher, opening on March 4. Watch for the review in the next issue of OUT FRONT. In the meantime check out the Q & A with the cast and director.
