Faith & spirit
As we turn to this season of holy days for several faith traditions, it strikes me that inherent in each one is the theme of journey. The faith traditions we share and celebrate with family and friends provide nostalgic memories of stories and scenes from years gone by and allow us to reenact the narratives of faith that have provided hope and meaning to generations of ancestors before us.
As an individual who holds all faiths within my daily spiritual practice, I am also aware that growing up Christian laid the foundation for who I am today. Therefore, in my current kaleidoscope of devotions, I have oftentimes contemplated on the meanings of these most popular holiday colors, knowing that they are not the hues that depict my holiday roadmap in its entirety.
The transition of autumn into winter signals a time when we experience some of our most profound emotions. Each day when we sent off our counter-offer, the inspection resolution or the appraisal report, it was with crossed fingers and mumbled prayers. Each night when we had to sit down and figure out if we should replace the roof like the prospective buyer wanted or wait for another offer, we rolled the metaphorical dice and hoped for a little divine inspiration. In the middle of all of this, it was hard to believe it would ever be over.
