She’s a champion, baby!
On Friday, Symone was crowned the winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 13 in a finale which saw contestants lip sync for the crown. The 26-year-old queen, a clear frontrunner throughout the season, bested runner-up Kandy Muse in an unforgettable episode that showcased the top four’s incredibly strong charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent.
The other two queens who competed in the finale were fan-favorites Rosé and Gottmik, but were unfortunately eliminated during the first round of lip syncs.
In a lip sync extravaganza dedicated to the music of Britney Spears, Rosé and Kandy Muse went head to head to the tune of “Work Bitch,” while Gottmik and Symone battled each other to “Gimme More.” Symone and Kandy performed one last time to “Til the World Ends,” which resulted in Symone snatching the crown and scepter.

Almost every contestant of this season would have been a deserving winner, but to millions, Symone’s win was certainly satisfying. She was a standout from the very first episode and delivered some of the best runways fashions in the show’s herstory. From an interpretation of the “Trains for Days” challenge that saw her don an elongated wave cap to an African-inspired look that showcased her flawless skin. No wonder she is known as the Ebony Enchantress.
However, one particular look had us speechless. After the Snatch Game episode, which she memorably portrayed historical figure Harriet Tubman, she came out onto the runway in a Black Lives Matter inspired look. A luxurious, all-white gown revealed bullet holes when she turned to walk backstage, along with a message written on the headpiece saying, “Say Their Names.”
It was political; it was art, and it made us rethink what drag can do and what it can be. That moment represented everything that makes Symone one of the most memorable queens to ever appear on Drag Race.
