Sounds On 29th Released A New Season!

Sounds on 29th has been providing a platform for local musicians to share their creativity for 40 years. The month of October offers a new season of Sound on 29th featuring Denver’s music staples.

Episodes can be found Fridays online on the PBS website. If cable is an option, every Saturday at 9 p.m. on channel 12, PBS local until December. This season in particular is special to Denver being produced, edited, hosted, and performed all by local creatives in the community with passion for what they do.

RuPauls’ Drag Race Winner of 2019, Yvie Oddly, will have an episode, as well as the electro Entrance actor and musician Mandy Groves, alongside the cinematic vision of Joseph Lamar.

Bree Davies, and Heather Dalton are the two that this season of Sound on 29th is dedicated to, and some of Denver’s most influential and devoted women in the community. Throwback videos from teletunes will be featured throughout the episodes. Predating MTV, teletunes was the original music video show between the 80’s and 90’s. Sounds on 29th is an ode to the originals!

Usually Sounds on 29th features Denver’s comedy performers and live performances from the musicians aired live. COVID-19 restrictions has made this impossible to produce for PBS, so this year is a collective of over 8o music videos in every genre. Each episode is diverse in culture and highlights a different community in Colorado. Local artists such as Kid Astronaut, Los Mocochetes, Television Generation, Kayla Marque, Pink Hawks, Wheelchair Sports Camp, Neoma, Cop Circles, and so much more.

Davies is a local arts advocate, and an arts and culture reporter, and a musician. Dalton was raised in Denver and is a local musician who produced the series with help from her devotion to the DIY community. Viewers can except discussions around current topics such as: political and social uprising, family separations by the hands of ICE, police violence, and the present Chicano Civil Rights movement in Denver.

Richard Taylor, another producer and editor of Sounds on 29th,  is no amateur to creating music videos. He won Westword’s Best of 2020 award for “Best Music Video Series,” with his band Bolonium.

There is an episode dedicated to the artist and animator Mitch Pond, who grew up in Denver up now lives in Los Angeles working as an animator in the rootscope department for Dream Corp LLC on Adult Swim.

Davies, Dalton, and Taylor keep PBS mission statement intact while providing an outlet for artists to shine. “One of the pillars of the PBS12 mission is to be an outlet for hard-working musicians through live performances, special concert broadcasts, exclusive interviews and more.” claims the PBS12 mission statement.
