SoulNia to Host Pop-up Dinner in Support of BLM and Pride
SoulNia, a pop-up restaurant and private dinner catering company dedicated to re-defining soul food and preserving culinary history, has announced a pop-up dinner ar The Bindery in an effort to support the Black Lives Matter movement and also celebrate PRIDE month.
SoulNia prepares traditional Southern cuisine that dates back to American’s inception with roots from West Africa as well as native populations. On Monday, June 22, SoulNia partners Kamiya Willoughby and Tess Hurlburt will bring their flavorful, vegetarian soul food in an effort to bring communities together. A portion of the proceeds from the dinner will be donated to Black Lives Matter 5280 and The Center on Colfax. KDJabove will be in charge of the soundtrack for the evening playing a mix of soul music and old-school R&B.
With their flavorful emphasis on colorful eating, SoulNia hopes to share their love for cooking and give back to the community at the same time.
Linda Hampsten Fox, the chef and owner of The Bindery, is donating her space for the dinner and will be matching SoulNia’s donations to these organizations, which are impacting both the black and LGBTQ communities.
The dinner itself is a four-course meal with drink-pairings starting with Southern Pearl Shooters, moving to Zucchini Fritters, the Mama’s Trio, and finishing with Sweet Potato Casserole. SoulNia is offering dine-in and take-out options in hopes to adhere to all members of the community.
In a 2019 article by OUT FRONT, Willoughby makes a statement that still rings true a year later: “I think it’s important, especially in this political climate and the current situation that we have, and the relationship that the Black community has with the rest of America. Soul food is a reflection of our history, and that’s a reflection of our history that we can comfortably celebrate, and it’s a celebration of Black people in this country.”
Tickets are $79 per person, which includes gratuity and tax. To purchase tickets, call The Bindery at (303) 993-2364.
