‘Slay it Forward’ Drag Mentorship Returns

“Slay it Forward” is Colorado’s premiere drag mentorship event that showcases the power of having queer guidance through art, relationships, and navigation of LGBTQ+ performance culture for those getting into drag. The ultimate exhibition of chosen family and friends makes its way to #VYBE on Friday, April 25 at 9:00 p.m. with a special “Under the Big Top” addition.

For nine years, “Slay it Forward” has been a unique community building process created and produced by Lady Sativa, a proud musician-activist. The mentor-mentee relationship cultivates personal and professional growth of new drag performers as they’re paired with seasoned drag mentors. Throughout the month, both artists meet at three workshops where the mentor provides their mentee with invaluable experience guiding them through makeup, dance, and overall performance exhibitions. 

The fulfillment and insights aren’t just for the mentees, however. “Slay it Forward” provides the opportunity for mentors to be the person that they needed when they were just starting out in the performance world. It’s a chance to nurture the creativity of those that may have never had someone to look up to, a time to use their experiences, good and bad, to pave the way for others, and a moment to heal their younger selves by providing the support and skills needed to nourish artistic spirit.
