The new kid on the block, restaurant and ice cream shop Skoops, is making waves in the gayborhood at 9th Avenue and Downing.

Opened in early June, Skoops, 1209 E. 9th Ave., features Boulder’s all natural and organic ice cream along with an array of home-made desserts, paninis, salads and weekend breakfast quiches, waffles and crepes. Since opening in early June, and keeping hours of operation from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. with plans to open early for weekend breakfast, this is one new business that is booming. Owners Eddy Horn and Tim Hamann couldn’t be more pleased.
“Business is amazing. We have had a great response from the public,” Hamann said. “We’ve actually been surprised that our customers leave thanking us for being here. It’s very humbling.”
Priding themselves on customer service and providing the best all-natural and organic ice cream and dishes has become Hamann and Horn’s business motto.
“We are the only business in Denver that serves all natural organic ice-cream,” Horn said. “You will pay more at places like Haagen Dazs or Dairy Queen and you still won’t get the premium ingredients that Boulder ice cream offers.”
When talking about opening up shop in the central Denver district, both owners agreed that they want their establishment to be a place that is welcoming for everyone. “We cater to adults, kids and even dogs (check out the doggie ice-cream made with yogurt, bacon and peanut butter.) We want to continue to bring as much diversity to the area as possible,” Hamann said.
The two business owners’ posses a passion for cooking, premium ingredients and pleasing the public. Although they come from quite different career backgrounds, Hamann’s was in the design industry while Horn was an account manager, the community has responded and warmly welcomed the new shop.
“It’s about quality and being able to offer quality service and product to the community,” said Hamann.
Hamann and Horn run the show on their own, cooking all the specialty dishes and serving the public as the 14-hour shifts everyday have yet to keep this ambitious duo from their warm hospitality and personal customer attention. It isn’t uncommon to find one of them walking around the courtyard benches outside asking the customers how they are enjoying their Espresso Chocolate Chip or Green Tea scoops of ice cream.
The owners have even created a promotion to help with the decorating. “You bring an ice-cream scoop, decorate it however you want, we’ll hang it up and offer you a free scoop of ice cream,” Hamann explained. “We also offer daily discounts and specials when you friend us on Facebook.”
Bringing more foot-traffic to all the shops in the area, including neighbors Dazbog and Videotique, Skoops owners are proud to be in the area. “We’re really here for everyone,” Horn said. “There has been a huge turn-out for families even. It’s really nice that we are increasing traffic for the whole area.”
Making their mark as the new business in town, Hamann and Horn are delighted to bring their original and wholesome flavors to the local community. So, stop in for a scoop of delicious locally made ice cream or choose from the array of other desserts and snacks while supporting a local business that is gracious and eager to serve the public with big smiles and that local-restaurant charm.
