Singer-Songwriter Halsey Announces New Pronouns

Singer-songwriter Halsey shared an Instagram Story on Saturday showing appreciation with a simple “Thank u,” followed by a red heart emoji.

While they did not specify any details or context behind the post, fans noticed that the “Without Me” hitmaker changed their pronouns to she/they on both Twitter and Instagram.

Halsey has been openly bisexual for years, but this marks the first time they have addressed not being cisgender. This quiet announcement prompted an outpour of support from fans, with one writing, “Seeing Halsey change their pronouns to she/they, and seeing people be so happy that they share pronouns with someone who is so important to them and hold so much influence is so u all are so valid I’m so proud of u :,).”

Another fan tweeted, “Halsey using she/they pronouns really warms my heart. People do not understand how easily u can make someone feel invalidated just with simple words. Seeing a person I look up to a lot coming out with the same pronouns as [me] is very comforting tbh <3.”

It is unclear whether Halsey prefers one set of pronouns over the other, but with her subtle news, it appears that she is comfortable with both.

In late January, Halsey shared the big announcement that she was expecting a child with boyfriend Alev Aydin in a colorful Instagram photo with the caption, “surprise!” They have been very open about how she and Aydin have been trying hard for a baby, and that this pregnancy was 100 percent planned. Halsey has experienced struggles with reproductive health.

In February, Halsey shared how being pregnant with their first child has leveled their perception of gender identity. Although they thought that pregnancy would give them very strong, binary feelings about womanhood, Halsey instead became hyper-aware of their humanness.
