Same-sex marriage could make Texas almost 200 million dollars
The University of California Los Angeles’ Williams Institute calculated that Texas could make approximately 181.6 million dollars within three years if they made one simple change: legalize same-sex marriage.
According to their research, 46,401 same-sex couples live in the same household in the state of Texas, and the figures were done using only half of that number (though marriage would likely happen for more than that percentage of the couples.)
The Williams Institute estimated 14,848 couples would marry within the first year of legalization, which would generate $116 million in spending.
Due to the significant economic boost, more jobs would be created, adding more reasons for legalization.
Rick Perry’s administration remains opposed to same-sex marriage and is fighting the issue in courts despite the same-sex marriage ban being found unconstitutional twice and a 48% population in favor of marriage equality.
