Senator Bennet Helps Fund LGBTQ+ Mental Health Access
Today, it can be a challenge to find the right mental healthcare, especially for members of the queer community. We live in a day and age where we are simultaneously at our most connected yet face the most disconnect we have ever felt before.
You:Flourish is a new nonprofit wellness platform dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community. Providing affirming mental healthcare, wellness resources, and access to peer support and community, You:Flourish is doing important and free work connecting queer folks to the care they need. Excitingly, Senator Bennet has just secured substantial funding to keep You:Flourish free for Colorado residents.
The need for proper mental health care for LGBTQ+ folks is greater today than ever before. Queer Colorado residents are facing increased mental health challenges. Only 42% of LGBTQ+ residents in the state report having good mental health overall. This statistic is much lower for those who identify as trans, nonbinary, and otherwise gender diverse. These are troubling numbers, especially compared to higher, more stable heterosexual, cisgender Coloradans.
To address this gap, platforms like You:Flourish are crucial to provide care to the community. Recently launched in April, the app is already providing for over 500 users in the state. Colorado Senator Micheal Bennet shares the commitment to enhance mental health and wellbeing across Colorado. He recently secured $845,000 in funding through Community Project Funding dedicated to You:Flourish. “We must ensure that all Americans get the care they deserve,” Bennet comments regarding the funding. Investing in the expansion of safe and affirming care is a big leap in the right direction.
“Together, we strive to ensure that every individual, in every corner of our state, has access to the resources and support they need to thrive,” says Steven Haden, founder of You:Flourish. Now, this important resource is free and easily accessible. Colorado residents can join You:Flourish here.
