Secret documentary filmed by Johnny Weir during Sochi Olympics

Already subject to arrest while in Russia, Johnny Weir upped the ante and secretly filmed footage to be used in a documentary of the Sochi Olympics from a LGBT perspective. To Russia with Love will “examine human rights through the lens of LGBT athletes” as they navigate a country with Draconian laws with anti-LGBT attitudes.

The EPIX film will include the media coverage of the Russian laws, LGBT athlete perspectives, with Weir hosting and narrating between shots. Director Noam Gonick is said to have filmed without consent from the Russian governement and kept everything as secret as possible to protect his subjects.

The movie is set to premiere on EPIX channel on Oct. 22.
