Computer Love: Hyper Pop Baddie RYLO Releases New Single “OO! Ah!”
It’s RYLO’s world; we’re all just living in it. Just when you think you’ve put your finger on what the underground singer/songwriter/producer hyper pop starlet’s next move will be, she switches things up by completely reinventing her sound.

Her last release, a seven-song mixtape entitled Last Resort, is a glossy, charismatic, melodic ode to an endless summer. Showcasing her edgy production skills and penchant for risk-taking, the cyber songstress flexed her prowess for using experimental electronic elements to enhance her own signature brand of sugary sweet chaotic pop realness. Harnessing the expertise of producer Matis Mora (Cyn, K.Flay, PVRIS, Miya Follick, Rebecca Black) and Rina Sawayama-songwriter and Halsey–guitarist Vic Jamieson she’s creating tracks equal parts euphoric and explosive.
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, RYLO (she/they) dropped a new single, “OO! Ah!” A more romantic take on her drill beat-infused ethereal style with dreamy, wistful vocals over glitchy synth drum pad melodies on Wednesday, February 14. Produced by Corin Roddick, member of influential, Billboard Electronic #1-charting duo Purity Ring (who’s also collaborated with Katy Perry, SZA, Deftones, and more), the single lands just in time for a run of shows through San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Brooklyn, New York at the end of the month.
A painfully catchy track, this is the type of euphoric love song you’d imagine the versatile performer dreamily singing quietly to herself with a glass of pink wine in a bathtub full of bubbles before a melodic beat drop with unexpected impact. Almost as if you’re a video game character who’s just eaten a glowing star, and is now suddenly flying through the air at hyper speed with a stream of glittery rainbows trailing behind your back.
Reminiscent of early Baby Tate, FKA Twigs, Nicki Minaj in her Young Money days, and more recent acts like Rina Sawayama and Cobrah. Every release RYLO drops is packed with a starling amount of forward-thinking, visionary, soundscape-orientated details, with her penchant for computerized elements and digital intricacies setting her apart from the pack.

Spellbinding appeal and otherworldly vocal chops uniquely position RYLO to be directly in front of the pack for up and coming queer Black pop stars, breaking the mold of what they should both look and sound like. With a take on her own self-production elements that are equal parts innovative, intuitive, and inventive, this anime bae is setting a pace for a whole new caliber of hyper pop stardom both within and outside of her various genres.
RYLO opens for Sophie Cates‘ San Fransisco (2/17) and Los Angeles dates (2/22). She has also announced her debut headlining show, set to take place at Brooklyn’s vaunted Elsewhere venue on Friday, March 29 with support from HYRA, Cecilia Gault, DJ Re:Code, and Oppaslayer.
