Ryan Gosling Releases ‘Ken the EP’

Actor and singer Ryan Gosling has released an EP alongside collaborators Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt. 

The EP, titled Ken the EP, was released on December 20 and features three new versions of Gosling’s “I’m Just Ken” song from Barbie.

The new songs include “I’m Just Ken (Merry Kristmas Barbie),” “I’m Just Ken – In My Feelings Acoustic,” and “I’m Just Ken – Purple Disco Remix.” Each song is a reworked version of the original with its own unique sound. 

An accompanying music video for “I’m Just Ken (Merry Kristmas Barbie)” featuring Gosling, Ronson, and Wyatt was also released alongside the EP.

“I’m Just Ken” was nominated for a Grammy at the 2024 Grammys, while Barbie: The Album received 11 nominations total. It also charted in the top 5 on Billboard’s “Hot Rock & Alternative Songs.”

Gosling has previously showcased his vocal abilities in the 2016 film La La Land, as well as in his own musical project, the alt-rock duo Dead Man’s Bones, alongside Zach Shields. But this will mark the first time Gosling has charted in the Billboard Hot 100.

Barbie: The Album featured a stacked lineup of musicians including Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice, Billie Eilish, Lizzo, Sam Smith, Tame Impala, Charli XCX, KAROL G ft. Aldo Ranks, PinkPantheress, FIFTY FIFTY ft. Kaliii, The Kid LAROI, HAIM, Khalid, Dominic Fike, Ava Max, and GAYLE.

Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?” from the album received a 2024 Grammy nomination for Song of the Year, while the album as a whole was nominated for Record of the Year.

In summer 2023, the Barbie movie had its own cultural moment with moviegoers donning their best pink apparel and flooding the theaters to see Greta Gerwig’s biggest hit yet.

Further buzz was created with what fans dubbed “Barbenheimer”—a double feature of Barbie and Oppenheimer, as both films were released on the same day.
