Republican Accused of Anti-Trans and Racist Comments
On September 19, a CNN report published evidence that North Carolina Republican Governor nominee Mark Robinson published inflammatory statements on a pornographic message board. As the current Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina, Robinson has had a history of publicizing inflammatory statements against women’s access to abortion and LGBTQ+ rights.
Robinson has been extremely outspoken about restricting transgender peoples’ access to bathrooms to the extent that he believes transgender women should be arrested for using women’s restrooms. Despite his history on anti-trans rhetoric, archived messages on the message board reveal that Robinson has watched transgender pornography.
Between 2008 and 2012, Robinson posted messages in a forum under the alias “minisoldr,” alluding to his history serving in the US Army Reserve. Comments ranged from calling himself a “perv” for watching trans pornography to a “black NAZI!” Robinson, as recently as 2018, has used this username on several other websites including YouTube, Twitter, and Pinterest where he publicized information on his earlier campaigns. Additionally, within the website, minisoldr’s public information and comments align with Robinson’s background information such as the profile’s full name, geographical location, and approximate age.
Robinson’s style of communication highlights the likeliness that minisoldr is Robinson. In both Nude Africa comments and Robinson’s Facebook messages, posts had unique phrases such as “gag a maggot” and “frogs fat ass.”
For the last decade, Robinson has publicly attacked Martin Luther King Jr. for being a “commie bastard” to the point that members of the public have called him a white supremacist. In response Robinson claimed that, “I’m not in the KKK. They don’t let blacks join. If I was in the KKK, I would have called him Martin Lucifer Koon!” In a similar vein as these comments, as minisoldr on Nude Africa, Robinson writes, “Slavery is not bad. Some people need to be slaves. I wish they would bring it (slavery) back. I would certainly buy a few.”
After information on Robinson’s comments came out, four top staffers as well as other workers have left the campaign. On September 23, Robinson posted on X (Twitter) that the campaign will be releasing new staff roles soon.
Currently, Robinson has still not provided proof that the allegations are false. Two days before CNN publicized the information, they reached out to Robinson’s campaign. Calling the allegations “tabloid trash,” Robinson has claimed that all information found and published on Nude Africa are manufactured to discredit his campaign. However, during this time, Robinson was not involved within politics, so it seems unlikely that somebody could have manufactured these messages over a decade ago.
