How to Prepare/What to Expect

For first-timers, it’s important to understand that Outside Lands is set in the middle of Golden Gate Park, a sprawling area filled with hiking trails. Therefore, durable shoes like running shoes, hiking boots, or combat boots are most appropriate. The festival campus is large, covering roughly five city blocks. As such, sandals, cowboy boots, heels, platforms, or anything without a thick sole is not encouraged.

San Francisco’s infamous microclimate means you could experience all four seasons in one day. Expect chilly mornings, hot afternoon sun, and drizzly, foggy, cold, and windy nights. Always bring something to sit on, like a waterproof blanket, as the fog makes the ground wet.

Additionally, a medium to heavy coat is a necessity. August temperatures in SF are more akin to late fall or early spring elsewhere. Renting a locker is highly encouraged if you want to bring extra coats, pants, leggings, tall socks, hats, shoes, or other necessities. Last year, those without proper weather supplies were seen wearing black trash bags trying to stay warm.

Festival-goers should stick to public transportation, as the festival is located in a rural/suburban part of the city that’s on the exact opposite side of town from most hotels and lodgings. Due to its location in a residential neighborhood, finding parking and securing an Uber or rideshare can be extremely challenging. Plan accordingly to ensure a smooth and enjoyable festival experience. Shuttle service from downtown San Francisco is also available for an additional fee.

See You in Golden Gate Park!

Outside Lands 2024 is shaping up to be a festival for the ages. With a star-studded and diverse lineup, along with world-class food, drink, and unique experiences, this festival continues to set the bar high.

Whether you’re a music aficionado, a foodie, or just looking to have a good time, Outside Lands 2024 has something for everyone. So, mark your calendars; get your tickets, and prepare for an unforgettable weekend in Golden Gate Park.
