Queer Couple Exchanges Vows in Front of Edinburgh Fringe Festival Crowd

Couples often pull out all the stops when planning and celebrating their marriage. But for Linus Karp and Joseph Martin, their marriage at their event at the Edinburgh Fringe on August 16 will be hard to top. In front of a crowd of 750 people at The Pleasance Grand in Scotland, according to PinkNews, the newlyweds received a standing ovation. BBC stated that the crowd was a ticketed event but also made up of family and friends of Karp and Martin.

PinkNews detailed that the ceremony had themed entrances with Karp being carried on stage and Martin appearing on stage to Charli XCX’s “Von Dutch.”

Their nuptials were completed ahead of their critically acclaimed performance of The Fit Prince, which was happening later that same day. Linus Karp and Joseph Martin are the founders of Awkward Productions, a theater company that has produced comedy plays such as Diana: The Untold and Untrue Story and Gwyneth Goes Skiing.

When the couple spoke to PinkNews, they stated that the idea of getting married on stage came together last minute saying, “kind of snowballed,” adding: “It went from ‘this might be possible’ to ‘we’re doing it’ within, like, three hours.”

When speaking to the BBC, Martin says that he and Karp wanted to get married in a special place for them, which is Edinburgh.

“We’ve been a real life couple for 11 years and we’re having a sort of a small ceremony in September but we wanted to do the legal bit first and we thought Edinburgh’s a very special place for us so why not do it there?” says Joseph via the BBC.

Regarding setting a time for a honeymoon, Karp said it’ll have to wait during an interview with the BBC.

“I’m not sure there’ll be time for a real honeymoon for a little while at least, but performing at the fringe is very much a honeymoon in itself, very relaxing,” says Karp.
