Power Party to honor LGBT community activists, allies

Out Front, Colorado’s largest and oldest LGBT media organization and network, will honor 11 individuals and organizations who created change and gave back this year Oct. 6 at its inaugural Power Party.

Individuals recognized include a lobbyist who is determined to restore control of the Colorado General Assembly to pro-LGBT lawmakers, a lesbian who is leading the development of programming of our community elders, a couple who quit their corporate jobs to open up an inclusive bar and has already helped raise more than $10,000 for LGBT nonprofits and a sports organization that allows everyone — no matter their ability — play.

The complete list includes:

  • Roger Sherman
  • Jace Woodrum
  • Joseph Soto
  • Mario Nicolais
  • Cristina Aguilar
  • The Denver Gay and Lesbian Flag Football League
  • Shari Wilkins
  • Gary Wilson
  • Ray Rodriguez and Phil Villotti
  • Michele Ostrander

Additionally, Out Front’s guest of honor will be Ellis McFadden. McFadden was one of Colorado AIDS Project’s and Project Angel Heart’s original volunteers — two organizations he continues to dedicate his life to. This year, he’s continuing his tradition of supporting pro-LGBT candidates by canvassing for state senate hopeful Andy Kerr and candidate for U.S. Congress Joe Micklosi.

“Ellis has never stopped fighting for the LGBT community,” said associate publisher Nic Garcia. “His tenacity, doggedness and gentle heart are a model for our community.”

The Power Party honorees will be featured in an editorial spread in the Oct. 3 issue of Out Front.

Tickets for The Power Party are available online at http://ofcnow.co/pptx. Tickets start at $65. Other ticket options include: couples for $120 and tables for LGBT and allied organizations are $600. The evening includes hosted cocktails, dinner, dessert, entertainment and an after party at Tracks Night Club.

A portion of the tickets and sponsorships will be donated to the flag football league.

The Power Party is presented by Pura Vida, Charlie’s and OnBoard A program of the Gill Foundation. Additional sponsors include Inspired Real Estate, The Gender Identity Center, Absolut Vodka and baskit underwear.
