Portrait Of Trump In CO Capital Removed at Trump’s Request

Instead of working on any of the concerns that people in this country are actually worried about, Trump has thrown a tantrum about a portrait of himself that has been hanging in the Colorado state Capitol since 2019. The portrait has now been removed at the request of a Colorado republican.

Colorado republicans raised more than $10,000 to commission artist Sarah Boardman, to create the oil painting. Boardman won Denver State’s nationwide “Call for Artists” and presented not only Trump’s painting in 2019 but the preceding portrait of Obama in 2011. When creating the portrait, she said that she wanted to make an apolitical likeness that would stand the test of time.

Trump complained about the portrait on Truth Social, saying that the painting was “purposefully distorted to a level that even I, perhaps, have never seen before.” He also praised the way Obama’s portrait was done, even though they are both done in the same style and by the same artist. He said that he would prefer no portrait over the one hanging in the Capitol. Colorado Senate Minority Leader Paul Lundeen then asked that the portrait be taken down and replaced with one that “depicts his contemporary likeness.”

Trump supporters didn’t even seem to have a problem with the painting when they came from other states to view it before it was taken down. Eighteen-year-old Trump supporter Kaylee Williamson said, “I think it looks like him. I guess he’s smoother than all the other ones. I think it’s fine.” A Trump supporter from Wyoming, Aaron Howe, said, “Honestly he looks a little chubby (but) better than I could do”.

I suppose this is what Trump does when he’s not attacking trans people and trying to erase the existence of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility from the federal government.
