Poem: A Day Without Us

Poem: A Day Without Us

People rise, voices swell, surrounding the Denver Capitol like a storm.
“A day without immigrants!”
“Justice for all!”—the crowd roars.
Fear cuts deep, as a sharp blade, wrapping hearts in frosty glaze.
Tears fall, unbidden, breath stolen by panic’s grip.
ICE, sheriffs, police—streets locked in armored fists.
Doors rattling, fists pounding, “Papers, IDs—where do you belong?”
City in chaos, lives unravel in its wake.
For immigrants like me, peace is just a memory—
Lost to Trump’s reign for the next four years.
